3rd Meeting

The 3rd Calypso meeting was held on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th May 2012 in Malta and consisted of several sessions: Steering Committee meeting, general session, Task 4.2 Working Group and Training session. The sessions held on Monday took place at the Excelsior hotel in Valletta, and the sessions held on Tuesday took place at the University Gozo Campus in Xewkija, Gozo.

The 3^rd CALYPSO meeting strengthened the established bi-lateral cooperation between Maltese and Sicilian partners and stakeholders. One of the important outcomes of the Task 4.2 Working Group meeting was an agreement to work on Memorandum of Understanding which would facilitate procedures in case of oil spills response and search-and-rescue activities. The MoU will specify the area of responsibility of every partner and stakeholder, and therefore, will reinforce the direct cooperation between Malta and Sicily.

The training session was dedicated to the use of drifters and floats for validation of the CALYPSO radar network. These drifters will be deployed in the Malta-Sicily channel about 10 nautical miles away from each other. The area to the North-West from Gozo was chosen for initial deployment of the drifters.
