Final Meeting

The Final CALYPSO meeting was held on the 29/30th August 2013. The main event consisted of a public seminar, held at the University of Malta. The event was organized by University of Malta in collaboration with Transport Malta, Armed Forces of Malta and Civil Protection Department

The seminar highlighted how marine data obtained from numerical models and meteo-marine observation systems, such as the CALYPSO HF radar network, can be elaborated and rendered useful for local users and stakeholders.  It focused on the use of such data for an improved response to marine hazards, better control of the trans-boundary maritime space, and greater efficiency for security and safety at sea. In particular, the risk of oil from marine spillages beaching on shores, hitting important infrastructure and causing irreversible environmental damage is a very realistic menace in the stretch of sea between Malta and Sicily.

Apart from the participation of partner scientists and engineers from the CALYPSO project, keynote speeches and presentations were delivered by high profile experts from competent organisations.

The Seminar was followed by the final meeting of the CALYPSO WP4.2 Working Group, Project Steering Committee and Project Closure.
